Presentation title: Database Administration Enhancements of Db2 13 for z/OS

 

Presentation abstract:

Db2 13 for z/OS, which became generally available in May of 2022, provides a wide array of new features and functions. This session will focus on the Db2 13 enhancements that pertain to database administration. Attendees will learn about online conversion of PBG table spaces to PBR, online removal of active log data sets, profile table support for local-to-Db2 applications, enhanced monitoring of index page split activity, and more.

Presentation abstract:

This session discusses the latest performance updates and scalability improvement from Db2 for z/OS. The session covers Db2 13 for z/OS key enhancements and associated monitoring / instrumentation updates of which you should be aware. The session also covers selected items related to Db2 synergy with IBM Z, including the latest IBM z16 features that you may be able to take advantage of.

Presentation title: New Dimension of Resiliency and Recovery using Db2, Cyber Vault and Safeguarded copies

 

Presentation abstract:

This session will be a Db2 for z/OS-focused Cyber Vault overview, providing information on basic concepts, Db2 for z/OS involvement and data consistency validation. Attendees will learn all about the Cyber Vault, current functionality and various recovery techniques to reduce recovery time and loss of data in the event of a ransomware attack.

 

 

Speaker bios:

 

Robert Catterall is a Principal Db2 for z/OS Technical Specialist with IBM. He started his IT career with IBM in 1982, and worked throughout the 1990s as a member of the Company's Db2 for z/OS National Technical Support team. From 2000 to 2007, Robert worked as a database technology strategist for CheckFree (now part of Fiserv). After working for three years as an independent Db2 consultant, he rejoined IBM in 2010. Robert is a past President of the International Db2 Users Group (IDUG), and a member of IDUG's Speakers Hall of Fame. He presents frequently at conferences and user group meetings, and blogs about Db2 for z/OS at http://robertsdb2blog.blogspot.com/

 

Akiko Hoshikawa is a Distinguished Engineer in IBM Data and AI. She is a Db2 for z/OS architect with overall responsibility for performance and the strategic integration of AI capability within Db2,  including the SQL Data Insights and many other optimizations in Db2. She is one of the core SMEs behind creating Db2 AI for z/OS to provide intelligent self-tuning and management in Db2.

She loves hands-on working with customers, providing performance evaluation, tuning, benchmarks, and designing performance features to solve customers’ challenges.

 

Anthony Ciabattoni is an IBM Certified Executive IT specialist and a current member of the Db2 for z/OS Development SWAT team based out of the Silicon Valley Lab with over 29 years of working directly with Db2 for z/OS. His experience includes be a customer lead Db2 architect as well as working in the Db2 for z/OS Tools development lab. He is a recognized Db2 for z/OS SME, 12+ years a member of the IBM Db2 for z/OS Customer Advisory Council and elected 9 straight years as an IBM Information Champion before joining IBM. In Anthony’s current role as a Senior technical advocate for Db2 for z/OS Development Lab he conducts consulting and educational workshops, Db2 health checks, and 360 Continuous Availability studies for worldwide Db2 for z/OS customers as well as a lab advocate to some of IBM’s largest North American customers. He has also presented Db2 topics at IBM worldwide conferences, IDUG (NA, SA, EMEA) and SHARE Conferences (US). Participated in authoring numerous Db2 for z/OS red books and white papers.
